Reluctantly leaving the blue seas of the Med we headed north on one of my favourite roads.
The A75 runs from Béziers to Clermont-Ferrand through some of France’s most spectacular scenery. Not only is it very well surfaced and maintained but it is free, apart from the spectacular Millau viaduct, which can easily be by-passed. After crossing the coastal plain with the mountains ahead the road starts its climb, winding round the side of a valley and up and up, through a tunnel and finally reaching over 1100 metres at its highest point.
We have found a couple of excellent overnight stops at lovely historic villages on previous trips. La Couvertoirade and Le Malzieu-Ville have been mentioned in this blog before but this time we found a third excellent night stop at Blesle.
